Any-who.. I came across a Pin through Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/vgonzalez01 ....not sure the link but look for my pin if I actually pinned it!..don't forget to follow me!) So ever since I was pregnant and had my son I've loved onions. I remember one night hubby was cooking burgers and was grilling onions (which by then he had stopped asking me since I could not stannnd onions) and I remember them smelling like the most amazing thing ever! So since then some things I cook I try to incorporate onions into it. This particular reason I had Green Onions was because I was looking for Chives and this is pretty much the same thing (or says the produce guy at my grocery store) all I know is I didn't want to spend $4.69 on a packaged case of organic chives just because the store doesn't carry them so I gave them a try! I made a reallly yummy "chive" butter for Easter dinner (along with my attempt at an adorable bunny bread) by the time I went back to my fridge my onions were bad. So what did I do?
First Cut off the onions right before the bulb clean them in cold water and cut off any excessive root growth.. I leave some just in case that helps them grow faster.
Next place bulbs in "bulb deep" water.. I put this much because I forget to water things but they do just fine in this muc water! :) Place in a cup that is not too wide because you will need the sides to help support. I used a small Rubbermaid
container... it works great!
Lastly, I put on my window sill in sunlight (assuming they need it to grow) you could also plant them in your garden and just cut as needed... I haven't got that far yet and this works too :)

If you use the cup method every few days rinse out the water and replace with fresh cold water.. I find that once the water gets yucky it needs replacing! Also check for regularly for water, I have mine on my window sill which faces my deck that gets ALLLL day sunlight! My green onions are always thirsty!
When you are ready to cut the onions cut above the bulb as you did at first.. rinse out the bulbs get off any yuckys... and cut the root growth.. just as you did at first! I chop my onions into small pieces and put them in the freezer until I am ready to use them!
Just follow the cycle and keep repeating! As I said i've done this about 4 or 5 times with the same bulbs, a little amount of money saved but how much have I spent re-purchasing green onions just for them to go bad? :/
I love that this is so ridiculously easy and there is no way to mess it up! Have you tried this? I'd love to see comments or pictures!
